There is probably more free entertainment available in your own town that you know of. You just have to get out and see what is out there. Yes, it does take work to find out or a very nosy friend who knows everything that is going on in your town. Kudos to you if you have such a friend!!
Have you checked to see if an author is coming in to speak at your local bookstore?? You can meet some amazing individuals that way. It's all about networking and that could be better than meeting someone famous who can can offer some advice!! They might even offer free coffee too!
