Learning how to mix apples for THE BEST APPLE PIES...

 We have never had an apple tree... in our life and now we have 5 (thanks to the previous owners)  And just in case you never thought of it... and we never did, crab apples combined with regular apples... it's too cold to go out and see what the dwarf apple tree actually is, but take the sweetness of the dwarf and add the same amount of crab apples and you have one amazing apple pie. And if that isn't enough, our daughter is learning how to make cider. We now have 3 jugs of it in the basement.

And yes, if you happen to see dwarf apple trees... grab them. No climbing and I can almost reach the top apples and I'm 5'4"!

Free Fruit For The Taking

Yes, there is definitely free fruit out there for the taking, if you know where to look!!

For hubby, it wasn't hard to find at all!  My husband for years would tell us about the orchard  that grew wild behind his house. The land had been sold off to developers, but nothing ever became of it. It was just acres and acres of fruit trees. Can you imagine a better place to grow up?? I don't know what took so long for the land to be divided into  residential properties, but he and his friends loved playing out there and collecting free fruit which they ate until they were sick lol.  And oh yes... he did say that occasionally they would take fruit home to their mothers to be made into pies!

Scout out to see if there are one time orchards in your area!  You just don't know what you might stumble upon!
